The Ruins of Medina

The historical Medina was a small isolated city on the edge of the Baklunish Caliphate who, according to legend, survived the Invoked Devastation for over three decades, then one day it simply vanished. Medina was a trade city sitting on the edge of frontier land that, prior to the terror brought about by the Suel sorcerers, was of marginal importance to the ruling Baklunish authority. After the devastation wrought by the Invoked Devastation, Medina alone survived to be the only major Bakunish population centre. Medina had a small population that remained fairly static because its Preisteses taught that the gods had spared them because they curated the sacred flower, a rare blue lotus that bestowed long life and had amazing curative properties. There was a price to be paid for their stewardship though. Many of the women of Medina became barren and the Priestesses themselves were all such.

The truth about the fate of Medina would be lost for centuries until a lost retainer, not much more then a boy, stumbled upon it while trying to find an escape from the lightness labyrinth he found himself within separated from his party. The solider was part of an expedition that had journies forth from the Great Kingdom territory of Alyssa and went to the far southern regions of the Azure Sea. The expeditions intent was to search for the leadership of a powerful vampire cult and was attempting to put a stop to their reign of terror over the Aerdy port city of Gris.

The Ruins of Medina are currently home to a a wide assortment of various monster types whose ancestors came in search of easy prey and treasure. The city has become a bizzarre reflection of its long faded glory. There are a great number of goblin and ogre tribes that war with one another as well as a small enclave of illithids with their umberhulk slaves, but the city is also home fiercer creatures. Hundreds of meenlocks prowl through the ancient boulevards, in packs of five, ten or even larger groups, looking for unwary humanoids to capture and sting into submission to be brought back to their warrens and warped into becoming a meenlock themselves and a family of Dark Creepers and their Dark Stalker overseerer helped the lone retainer learn the skills he would need to survive. The descendent of the human survivors of the calamity that resulted in the mass teleportation of the city proper into the caverns it now currently lay in, still live on as well although they would hardly be recognised as such by their ancestors. The cities human population are divided into stock yards where they are portioned out based on ability of breeding purpose. Some are kept as slaves, some are kept as livestock but all of them have descended into a twisted mockery of their forebears. Generations of inbreeding and isolation has resulted in a physically and mentally stunted race. Medina once held a population of almost ten thousand souls but today scarcely more then a few hundred still live on.
